CODES AND CONVENTIONS:

Codes and Conventions of a Music Magazine Front Cover

-Title
*Always one word word/letter or letters
*Always at the top in the left hand corner
*Unique font for the title
*Largest text on the cover

-Main Cover line
*One word/Two words
*Sub line
*Anchors the main image
*Largest text on page after title

-Cover lines
*As few words as possible
*Two or three lines
*Information about content
*Intrigue*Provoke interest
*Frame the main image

-Typography
*Consistent throughout
*Only a few fonts are used
*Connotations of the font reflect target audience and subject

-Positioning statement
*By the titleIssue date and price

-Puff
*something extra (usually free)

-Strip at the bottom or top of front cover

Task Five:

Codes and Conventions of a Contents Page

-Main image and smaller images

-Page numbers on pictures anchor image to written contents

-Use headings to divide up contents

-Editorial and picture of editor

-Subscription advert

-Set out in columns

-White background

-Title of magazine repeated

-Issue date

-Word contents

-The text is usually two or three words and have small sub line text with it

-Regular content

-Features one off articles that appear in that issue only

-Page number at bottom as well as Title, issue date, website address and contact details

-Creative photography

Task Six:

Codes & Conventions of a Double Page Spread

-Half of the article is taken up by a picture

-Pictures often bleed across from one page to the other, strapline/border often used to bleed across DPS

-Brief intro paragraph at the start of the article- Stand First- always by the headline and before the article, works with the headline to introduce the article

-Drop cap at the start of the article-visual cue

-Bold text for first paragraph, somtimes a slightly larger font

-Simple colour scheme

-Headline is biggest text on page-bleeds across both pages

-Columns, usually 3 or 4

-More than on image used
* smaller images used to break up the layout of the text and make it more inviting
*panels, boxes and quotes are also used

-Quotes sometimes used on main image

-Byline
*name of journalist that wrote the article

-Credit
*of photographer positioned in or by the stand first or at the end of the article

-Headline doesn't have to make sense
*creative
*eyecatching

-Artist names higlighted

-page number/ title of magazine/ issue date at the bottom of page

-web address

-strapline by heading/tab

-creative photography

-informal style of writing
*personality of journalist come through in the article
